Community-Based Approaches to GBV Prevention
Type of Measure
Prevention > Community mobilization
Form of Violence
Violence against women and girls
Brief Description
GBV prevention is actively discussed during weekly community meetings (Inteko z’abaturage) and Family Evenings (Umugoroba w’Imiryango) at the village level. Various structures have been key in raising awareness, including anti-GBV committees in communities and schools, and Friends of the Family (Inshuti z’Umuryango), who assist with child protection and share information about families in conflict for timely intervention. Community Policing Committees (CPCs) also contribute by organizing regular awareness campaigns to prevent sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and other crimes.
